Here at Classic Joinery in Cheltenham...

I'm grateful for many people who have helped me along my woodworking journey, but most of all my father who let me turn his shed upside-down at an early age. He showed me the ropes and and has always been a great encouragement. We've been stealing each others tools ever since.

One thing I love about wood working is how nearly all of our waste is recyclable and our products are not toxic to the environment.

Glazing, Double and Vacuum glazing

For external joinery we mainly use Sapele- A sustainable west African hardwood which is durable, stable; hard and cost effective. We occasionally use Accoya which is is extremely rot resistant; more eco friendly due to the timber being faster grown; but the treatment it undergoes makes it an expensive option.

For internal joinery, Tulipwood (Poplar) is a popular choice, is a stable pale hardwood that machines well; is fairly hard and stable; isn't knotty and doesn't hold lots of sap, is very sustainable and a good option if the item is to be painted.

European Oak stands the test of time very well inside and out.

Timber

We strive to fit the best possible insulated glazing units into our joinery to make your investment in insulation count and to meet building regulations.

If your property is Listed you may get permission for double glazing in the form of heritage units (see pic, notice how the white spacer bar blends in). However vacuum glazing has been accepted in listed properties in Bath and Stroud. It is 8-9mm thick looks like single glazing and has the performance of triple glazing!

Finishes

With paints, lacquers and oils we strive for the best result. Extensive research on the 'white satin' finish alone has lead to finding a dependable coating that has excellent durability, resisting cracking and flaking.
